Merrimac Multi-Mix PICO Offers Multi-Chip Module (MCM) Designs to Engineers for Design Flexibility

WEST CALDWELL, N.J., June 4, 2002: Merrimac Industries, Inc. (AMEX: MRM) today announced that Multi-Mix PICOTM offers design flexibility by offering phase shifters, IQ networks, attenuators and vector modulator reference designs to engineers who prefer open architecture designs and who desire to test their system designs quickly.

Chairman and CEO Mason N. Carter commented, "Multi-Mix PICOTM now offers several design options to engineers who are looking for quick, flexible, low cost, surface mount integrated solutions."

"Multi-Mix PICOTM design options:

  • Engineers who desire to build their own designs can now mount individual Multi-Mix PICOTM products directly onto their own boards to test out their new system designs.
  • Engineers can also purchase several Multi-Mix PICOTM products, in the form of a 'known' good module, MCM (Multi-Chip Module), pre-mounted, pre-tested, on a Merrimac board, which in turn, can be placed onto the designers circuit board. This option offers advantages in developing prototypes towards integration. The MCMs can be either surface mounted or connectorized.
  • The Multi-Mix PICO product line is available as a fully integrated multilayer 'known' good module, which can be surface mounted and is available on tape and reel. These modules offer a high degree of integration and provide size reduction, increased reliability due to less solder joints and minimizing interconnection lengths, better power handling, excellent temperature performance and EMI/RFI shielding.
  • By utilizing its building block architecture, Multi-Mix PICOTM also provides the design engineer the option to purchase a Multi-Mix® Micro-Multifunction Module (MMFM®), which includes several of the desired signal processing functions, all integrated into a cost effective multilayer pre-designed and pre-tested 'known' good module."

Samples are available for qualified product designs.

About Merrimac

Merrimac Industries, Inc. is a leader in the design and manufacture of Multi-Mix PICO RF Microwave components, assemblies and Micro-Multifunction (MMFM) Modules, serving the wireless telecommunications industry worldwide with enabling technologies for space, defense and commercial applications. Merrimac is focused on providing Total Integrated Packaging SolutionsTM with Multi-Mix® Microtechnology, a leading edge competency providing value to our customers through miniaturization and integration. The Multi-Mix process for microwave, multilayer integrated MMFM circuitry is a patented method developed by Merrimac Industries based on fluoropolymer composite substrates. The fusion bonding of multilayer structures provides a homogeneous dielectric medium for superior electrical performance at microwave frequencies. The bonded layers may incorporate embedded semiconductor devices, MMICs, etched resistors, passive circuit elements and plated-through via holes to form a three-dimensional subsystem enclosure that requires no further packaging. Merrimac Industries facilities are registered under ISO 9000, an internationally developed set of quality criteria for manufacturing operations.

Merrimac Industries, Inc. and its subsidiary Filtran Microcircuits Inc., with locations in West Caldwell, NJ, San Jose, Costa Rica and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, have approximately 240 co-workers dedicated to the design and manufacture of signal processing components, gold plating of high-frequency microstrip, bonded stripline and thick metal-backed Teflon (PTFE) micro-circuitry and subsystems providing Total Integrated Packaging Solutions for wireless applications. Merrimac (MRM) is listed on the American Stock Exchange. Multi-Mix, Multi-Mix PICO, MMFM and Total Integrated Packaging Solutions are trademarks of Merrimac Industries, Inc.
